It was a Rowdy Saturday Night
The Americans, Jodeci, and several fans had other ideas after the previous night鈥檚 elevator fiasco, and no one was hoping for a nice relaxing night at the hockey rink more than me. Unfortunately, I don鈥檛 know if garden gnome night brought in a more aggressive crowd from the suburbs or what but that crowd was just amped up from the moment the puck dropped including one person who couldn鈥檛 stop swearing. On a related note, I really wish that the staff at the BMO had done a better job keeping people in their seats in front of me. Several times people were getting up while the puck was in play, my understanding is that people are not to leave their seats while the puck is in play.
The entire evening was a little baffling because the opponent was the Rochester Americans鈥攖he affiliate of the Buffalo Sabers. I would鈥檝e thought such a rowdy scene would鈥檝e occurred on Friday night against the Red Wings affiliate. The rowdiness really picked up at the start of the third period where the evening of rough play came to a head and a massive on-ice brawl ensued. Everyone except the goalies got into four separate altercations, part of which I missed because again everyone stood up blocking my view. It was still the greatest hockey fight I鈥檝e ever seen.
Because Jodeci were up three goals, I made a beeline for the elevator with three or four minutes to play. It SUCKS when you pay that much for tickets because you want to see the entire game, but considering that a hassle at the elevator was avoided, I鈥檓 happy. In all, the game featured penalties galore, rough play, a massive brawl, and a crowd chanting for cheeseburgers. What more could a fan want?
